Multi Craft Technician
Job Summary: The Multi Craft Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of manufacturing equipment, including wrappers, motors, conveyors, and other machinery. This role involves installing, programming, and repairing automated machinery such as robots and PLCs, ensuring equipment operates efficiently. The technician also conducts preventive and corrective maintenance, installs new machinery, and maintains accurate documentation of electrical and control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair manufacturing equipment including wrappers, motors, conveyors, and industrial machinery.
- Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels.
- Connect power cables and install grounding leads to ensure proper equipment functionality.
- Monitor machinery to ensure optimal performance and address issues promptly.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance as required.
- Diagnose and repair faulty equipment or systems.
- Oversee the installation and startup of new manufacturing equipment.
- Conduct visual inspections and perform diagnostic tests on machinery.
- Identify and resolve machine malfunctions by collaborating with supervisors or other maintenance personnel.
- Dismantle and replace defective machine components.
- Clean and lubricate machinery parts including shafts, bearings, and gears.
- Install, modify, and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including gauges, valves, and pressure regulators.
- Maintain the facility’s physical structure through necessary repairs.
- Program, troubleshoot, and repair automated equipment such as robots and PLCs.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of electrical and control systems.
- Assist and train mechanics in electrical and control-related troubleshooting and repairs.
- Provide remote support to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues as needed.
- Perform inspections and maintenance while equipment is in operation.
- Lead and coordinate repairs during equipment downtimes.
- Quickly address and resolve equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality control, government regulations, and company procedures.
- Conduct repairs and maintenance on plant systems, including steam, water, air, power, refrigeration, HVAC, and emissions control.
- Maintain accurate work records using the company’s job assignment system.
- Occasionally travel to obtain parts, attend training, or perform other assigned duties.
- Uphold product quality, safety, and compliance with manufacturing standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree or certification in electrical, mechanical, or industrial automation engineering is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in maintaining automated manufacturing systems and equipment.
- Proficiency in full machine and electrical control system design, installation, and commissioning.
- Strong mechanical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair gearboxes, conveyors, sprockets, chains, belts, clutches, and brakes.
- Expertise in electrical systems up to 480V 3-phase, with the ability to read electrical drawings and P&IDs.
- Familiarity with power tools, hand tools, welders, lathes, and drill presses.
